Event Notifications
Please make sure that you have your cell/mobile devices charged for the event. We will be using push notification for Check In, match assignments to notify you of your game times and court numbers throughout the tournament, and match results. See the video tutorials below.
For each event (except the ones listed below) you do NOT need to check in with the tournament director. Instead, you will receive a NOTIFICATION approximately 1 hour before your event start time. Follow the prompts for checking in on your phone. If you do NOT get a notification message an hour before your scheduled start time then check with the tournament director to double check that you are registered for the event.
Bag Tracker
The Bag Tracker is very important for competitive events like this. It helps us to gather round-by-round data so that we can adjust players to the most appropriate skill level. Please take a few moments to watch the video so you can learn how to use the Bag Tracker.
Skill Level
We do our best to provide players with enough information to place them in the appropriate division/level. Those players who have participated in our previous events are assigned to the appropriate division. Unfortunately, we don't know every player and there are bound to be some players who are competing in the incorrect division/level, for whatever reason. We will do our best to be fair and impartial to all players but once the bags fly it is out of our hands. The best we can do from there is to elevate or demote players in future events. You may notice some people playing in multiple events. This is acceptable as long as they are playing ABOVE their skill division and not below. The registration software does not allow players to register for events below their skill levels. Therefore, an Intermediate level player may choose to also play in Competitive and Advanced (both higher levels) to see how they stack up against players in that division. This is perfectly acceptable for this event (if it isn't allowed in another event then the event details will list those restrictions).
Rules
ACL Rules & Regulations
The Arizona State Cornhole Championships is an ACL-sanctioned event and will follow the ACL Rules & Regulations as outlined on this page - www.iplayacl.com/rules-regs.
NOTIFICATIONS
Once you receive your notification please arrive at your court/lane within 5 minutes.
WARM UP
Prior to the start of your game, it is common to do a “Down and Back”, which means that each side throws an un-scored practice round before starting the game.
THROWING
You and your opponent alternate throws until all bags have been thrown. The team that scored last goes first on the next round. There are plenty of variations to the game of cornhole in terms of court setup. If you’re new to organized tournament, the diagram below will help you understand where to set up when you start your game.
SCORING
Bags that are on the board are worth 1pt and bags in the hole are worth 3pts. We use cancellation scoring meaning that after all bags have been thrown, you count up the number of points on each side and then subtract the scores to determine which team earns points. Only one team can earn points per round. For example: if you have 3 bags on the board and 1 bag in the hole (6pts) and I have 1 bag on the board and 1 bag in the hole (4pts), you would be awarded 2pts (6-4=2). Please use the score towers at each lane.
WINNER
The winner of the game is the first team to 21 or over after the round has finished. Backyard rules like "skunk rule", "win by 2" or "score 21 exactly" are not used in competitive events. Winning team should mark the score on the clipboard (for pool play) or report to the scoring table (elimination round) when the game has finished.
